Athletes By Design Coaching Services

Mike Farrell and Al Gandolfi co-founded the Athletes By Design (ABD) coaching firm in 1992. Through the structure and guidance of working with USCF certified coaches and former national-caliber athletes, Athletes By Design featured up and coming talent from around the Midwest, primarily elite-level junior level cyclists.

Since those founding days, Athletes By Design has continued its commitment in promoting sport and helping athletes reach their full potential. Through individualized coaching programs and its role with the Athletes By Design Cycle Club, ABD continues to support competitive NRC Men's and Women's Elite Cycling Teams and works closely with one of the largest contingent of Master's level cyclists in the United States
. As is in keeping with the tradition of Athletes By Design Coaching, ABD still works and develops some of the finest young talent, which has included riders that have gone on to race with US Pro Cycling Teams and some that have continued their cycling European squads.

If you are looking for an opportunity to work with a coaching program that is committed to helping you develop your abilities, whether your objective is to drop your time at your next Time Trial event or to take the next step towards a more competitive level of cycling, ABD coaching has the staff to work with you to develop those abilities.

MIKE FARRELL

For almost 30 years, Mike has been involved in every aspect of cycling, from a professional rider to managing professional teams to a USCF Regional Coach. Mike founded Athletes By Design with Al Gandolfi in 1993, and is the current ABD Cycle Club President. In addition, Mike is the owner/manager of Prairie Path Cycles. Mike's focus as a coach is not just on physical development but also the technique and tactics necessary to win a bike race - something he has a lot of experience with over the years!

AL GANDOLFI

Al Gandolfi has a degree in Physical Education with an emphasis in Kinesiology from Purdue University. He currently works as an Assistant Principal in Northwest Indiana. He began his cycling career in 1981 and continues to hold a license as a Category 1 on the road and track. He began working with USA Cycling in 1987 and has continued that relationship into 2005. He currently sits on the Coaching Education Advisory Committee for USA Cycling and is one of four individuals who certify coaches through the Coaching Education pipeline for USA Cycling.
